HMM Supports Gas Safety Week 2025 – Looking After Your Home, Friends, and Family

At HMM, we are proud to pledge our support for Gas Safety Week, taking place from 8th-14th September 2025. This year, the theme is “Looking after your home, friends, and family,” emphasising everyone’s role in keeping each other safe from gas-related hazards.

Poorly maintained gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide poisoning. Ensuring gas safety in your home is crucial. Here are some key tips to help you stay gas safe:

  • Annual Checks: Arrange yearly safety checks of your gas appliances by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

  • Use a Qualified Engineer: Always verify your engineer’s Gas Safe ID and qualifications via GasSafeRegister.co.uk.

  • Spot the Signs: Watch out for warning signs such as lazy yellow flames, black marks around appliances, excessive condensation, or persistent pilot light outages.

  • Maintain Ventilation: Keep vents and flues clear to ensure safe appliance operation.

  • Carbon Monoxide Awareness: Recognize CO poisoning symptoms (headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapse, loss of consciousness) and install an audible CO alarm certified to standard EN50291.

  • Never DIY Gas Work: DIY attempts on gas appliances are dangerous. Always hire a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Throughout Gas Safety Week, we’ll be sharing more tips and information to ensure you and your loved ones remain safe.

Rob Denman, Director of Gas Services at Gas Safe Register, said, “This is the fifteenth Gas Safety Week, and the 2025 theme highlights our shared responsibility in keeping each other safe. We’re thrilled to have HMM help spread this vital message. Always choose a registered and qualified engineer for gas work.”
